Equivalent Qualifications Packet - Applicants with current ASHA Certification
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Effective January 1, 2000, Section 2532.8 was added to the California Business and Professions Code that states that: "the board shall deem a person who holds a valid certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology or audiology issued by the Council for Clinical Certification in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology to have met the educational and experience requirements set forth for speech-language pathologists or audiologists in Section 2532.2." (The Council is responsible for establishing and monitoring the standards programs of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, or ASHA.)
Further amendments to Section 2532.8, effective January 1, 2003, authorizes the Board to verify any professional experience obtained in California that led to the issuance of the Certificate of Clinical Competence. If any portion of your required professional experience, also referred to as the Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), was completed in California you will be required to submit the Required Professional Experience Verification form evidencing such experience. Effective July 1, 2003, public schools and federal agencies are no longer exempt setting for the purposes of completing the RPE/CFY. Please refer to Section 2532.7 (b).
You will need to send a check for $111 ($60 application fee and $51 fingerprint processing fee), a completed Application for License (Equivalent Qualifications), the fingerprint card and proof of current ASHA certification.

You must allow 5 weeks for processing of your application. Before calling the office to check the status please go to our web site under "Verify a License", then "Verify a Licensee", and enter only your last name. When your full name appears click on your name and that will bring up your licensing information. You may print that screen and use it as proof of current licensure until you have received the actual license. If, after 5 weeks your name does not appear you should contact the office.
